Soaking up the Snow

Chicago has been strangely without snow this winter.  All of January passed without much more than a dusting and a broken record for days without snow to boot.  My Texan self was not exactly shedding tears.  And if I was they were only ones of joy.  I seriously didn't miss it for a second.
Some of us, on the other hand, were pretty darn excited when the stuff finally started to come down.  For real this time.
While the boys were at school, my girl got all decked out in her snow gear and came outside to help me shovel the snow.  For a few days after shoveling, my back was just not the same.  Is it just me or am I getting old?
A couple of weeks ago, after a night dealing with a bout of food poisoning, Evan took the kids off my hands and took them sledding.  I got a few hours of uninterrupted rest and the kids had a blast.  That's what I call a win-win.
The verdict's in: he loved it.  I'm more sure now than ever, this kid is his daddy's boy through and through.  After a few runs and a lot of falls, it sounds like he's got the snow plow thing down.  I wondered if he'd be happy that he chose a day of skiing over a full blown birthday shin dig, but this boy was thrilled with a day on the slopes with his dad learning to ski.  Again, something in his DNA that is sooo not from me.  And who knew?  Illinois does have...ahem...a hill to ski down!

Rebecca DANG Jones! I just spent a better part of my DAY reading ALL your posts!! You're a tricker! You DO blog you just don't post them, until you do and then there is a lifetime of reading to catch up on! GIRL!!!!
Im in HEAVEN!! Look at your darling family and all your fuN FUN FUN and CUTENESS! The Christmas Eve picture is TOO MUCH!! All smiling and looking so sweet- LOVE IT!!! Delany seriously is growing up!!! The first picture in her snow suit I was so confused, I thought Colt was wearing a pink snow suit- then duh, he's SEVEN and probably not wearing pink! WHy is it weird to me that your children keep growing up? I just need to see them more thats all.

Oh how these posts make me miss you sooo bad. Your home looks like the most comfy cozy perfect CHristmas house there ever was! I don't see how you could ever leave at the holidays again, especially with all your fabulous traditions! Man, I think I AM coming to your house this year for Christmas!! Sorry Pam. I'll even buy you a prime rib (I won't eat it, but thats not what matters).

So Im a littler nervous, will Colt still marry Lauren if she actually was raised in the rocky mountains and doesn't know how to ski?? How do you live in the land of flat and he's freakin SKIING?!?! Sooooo very very cool. Maybe thats the ticket, I could probably ski if it were flat! haha! Just kidding I see that big ol hill in the background- he's the bomb, like his Dad!

So I'll be talking to you soon, lest you fear the worst. Im all good.... just five hours behind schedule after catching up on your blog!!! ;)
LOVE YA TO PIECES!!!!

Saw these on all DB and I was wondering about the story behind them! Cute cute Colt. I can't believe he's 8 this year. It makes me so sad to see him growing up! I forget it's winter and snowing in other parts of the country..haha. What a fun day for Colt & Ev!

Yeah for the update. I'm proud of you for shoveling, that is one thing I do not do. So glad you were able to spend Christmas at your house with your parents, an added bonus.

Yeah for the update! Thanks so much! Am loving your descriptions as always. So cute to see the kids enjoying the snow-- especially as I'm enjoying the images from my comfy 70's CA weather. (Not to rub it in) I'm such a pansy now in the cold weather but I'm so glad they got to play in it. Sorry for the extra work it brings you with the snow shoveling! Looking forward to sharing some of our warmth with you at the reunion. Yeehaw!

Food Poisoning- I am ssooo sorry. I had that once- actually asked to die, just wanted to be done ...glad you survived. That is strange that Illinois has skiing, never knew. Thanks for sharing the post, it is always fun to read about your family.

Okay stop it right now, I am DYING over Delaney in that snow suit. I could just reach right into the computer and pick her up and bring her home to live with me. How can you possibly stand the adorableness of her helping you shovel snow??

I can't believe your children are growing so old, it just seems like it wasn't that long ago that I was holding little, tiny baby Colton. He has grown up so much.

Thanks for all the updates, I sure love your blog posts. You guys need to come to Austin ASAP, it is perfect right now!
