Chicago

We're here! As of last Sunday night we officially became Chicagoites? Chicagoans? I have no idea but whatever they call it, we're that. Back in Denver, Evan's hours were either cut or he was working in Washington. Thankfully, we were being watched out for and we now are kicking it in the suburbs of Chicago as Evan goes to his "dream job." Now let's be honest because really I'm not going to sugarcoat this blog. It has been a HARD week - I've been all teary eyed and irrational and hormonal - kind of like pregnant Rebecca. Luckily my mama showed up on Thursday and saved the day. Now if only I could convince the woman to move into our little apartment. Here's a recap of the week - the good and the bad.

Bad: Moving into an apartment that STUNK! Like rotting food smell.
Good: Having a candle to hold under my nose as I walked from room to room. Oh and the nice apartment manager ladies letting us switch to a smoky smelling apartment instead. I'll take it.

Bad: MISSING SO MUCH my house!
Good: Ummmmm...someone else will hopefully buy it and love it instead?

Bad: Sooooo flat here.
Good: I'm from Houston so dangit I can hang with the flat.

Bad: Trying to make all our stuff from the house fit into an apartment.
Good: My mom who has made it all work - love that woman!

Bad: Missing my neighbors and friends!
Good: Ummmm ....

Bad: Being the new girl in the ward (church congregation for those not fluent in Mormon speak).
Good: The nice lady who came up and told me where the "good" McDonald's to go to was.

Bad: Missing the springtime in Colorado.
Good: LOVING all the Burger Kings here!

Bad: Making a rent payment and mortgage payment at the same time.
Good: My husband getting paid.

Bad: Living so far away from so many people that I love.
Good: Living only 6 hours away from my sis!

Here's to a better week and a better attitude on my part. See you in a few days Ash!

Oh to be 6 hours away from family/you - I just don't even know how to contain my excitement - we've always been double digit driving hours from family since we're been married!!

So moving is hard - bottom line. The whole change thing is the worst, especially from a house to an apt, but there's a reason y'all are in Chicago, if not to see me every other weekend!! ;). I'm so glad mom is there (and your coming this weekend) Every compliment I receive about our place is something that mom decorated or came up with. Just ask mom about my key hanger....and yes it's still there and people have commented how funny it looks -haha.

We're praying your house sells pronto, you find new Illinois BFFS soon and your place starts smelling like Yankee Candle goodness.

LOVE YOU!

Babe! What a trooper you are to blog the same time you move!! You go girl!
I'm wishing you were closer but we are all praying the house sells fast and that you find so much to love about Chicago. I hear it's humid in the summer so maybe that will help you channel a little Texas! So glad your mom could be there to help out. I felt awful that you were all far away and having to do the work by yourselves. I mean, I know Evan was a professional mover but still, that's a ton of work for two people who are also handling two kids and a job.

Good on you for looking for the good!! Love you tons! Take care! Oh-- send us a birthday list so we can get you some fun stuff! Much love!!

That is exciting to move to Chicago. While I was reading your blog I got a little homesick for you. Chicago is awesome. My favorite restaurant is Ed Debevics (sp?). It is quite the experience and don't swim in the lake by the aquarium.

holy geez you make me laugh! I LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH and life is stinky without you "down the street". a new ward though, come on, you know that is enough good news to over come the rest of the chicago junk. i liked how spring time in CO is compared to the # of burger kings there- HILARIOUS!!!!

and your mom is one of my most favorite people- can she PLEASE adopt me PLEASE!!!!! she wants granddaughters right??? either way she is my role model for the mom I will be to my adult daughters- you're so lucky!!

hang in there and seriously post some freakin pictures or im gonna throw you in that lake by the aquarium when i get there!!!!!

Wow, what a move! If it truly is Evan's dream job, then some of those bads should be turning to goods! Good luck in the new city, I'm sure you will enjoy it just as much as your last place!

I hear they have great pizza in Chicago. That can be a "good" thing, right? I hope you find new things to love, but believe me, I know how hard it can be. :)

Yay for husbands with jobs! That'll trump just about anything else.

Congrats on getting the move done. Exciting to have a new adventure in life. Chicago will be fun and it's great to have money coming in right now. And how fun to be so much closer to Ashley, especially with a little nephew on the way. Love you!

Rebecca I have a friend who has lived in Chicago for the past few years...they just bought a house in the city. They LOVE it there. Let me know if you want her info..just to at least have a contact. She is a V3 roommate, actually.

So yeah moving SUCKS but you know when you are doing the 'right' thing it'll all work out. Soo nice to be so close to your sister, esp with her being pregnant and all.

I hope you get settled in quickly!!

We miss you guys! I second what Missy said - it's been raining and windy (you'd think we're in Chicago ourselves) and chilly actually! Oh, and ps...I lost my job so now i have more time to spy on your house :) Have you guys had any lookers lately??? You know, you could always have Evan convince the Chicago office to move to Denver...We could start a petition for ya if you'd like :)

Chicago! Wow, I am really excited for Evan to do his dream job, Chris thinks he is just the coolest person in the world and is proud to be his friend. I love that you know which McDonalds to go to...moving does suck, but you make friends wherever you live so enjoy the new things to see and do! Good luck on selling the house!
PS- I am due in 6 days...so thanks for the post, surfing is how I past the hours and try to forget that I am pregnant still.

Oh wow, Rebecca. I have not checked my private friends' blogs in a long time, and I have obviously missed out on some important news! CHICAGO?!!?:!?@#%#$^&?? What in the world?!! I loved this list of the good and the bad. Love your honesty because heaven knows moving is hard. I haven't lived in a house since I've been married, so I can only imagine how hard that must be to go from a house to an apartment. How nice to have your mom around to help you move and adjust things in your new place. Tyler & I will keep you guys in our prayers.

Here's to enjoying your new adventure and to being close to your sister! YAY!! xoxo

My two memories of Chicago are:
1- Visiting a McDonalds on an overpass. They had a gift shop in it with a plastic duck that swum around a pond. I wanted it. My parents wouldn't let me have it.

2- Being stuck in the airport for 17 hours! BOO!

I'm sad you're so much farther away. But yay for dream jobs! That's got to be good for everyone in the long run.

Good luck with everything darling!

Hey lady---I've been out of the blogging world for a little while. YOUR IN CHICAGO? That's GREAT NEWS! One---we will be in Urbana/Champaign (2.5 hrs south of Chicago) starting in August!! Two--Scott Brown and his family live in Chicago! Seriously! We went to visit Chicago and there are SO many free things to do--we stayed 4 days! You'll love it! Yes, it WAS and will be a huge change from Utah/Nevada for us--no mountains. Oh, and if you ask someone which was is North/South/East/West--be ready for a surprised look and statement of "well, if you look at the sears tower you'll always know which way is which!" WHAT?? That NEVER made sense to us to we had to tell them that we came from a place with Mountains!! They just laughed! The people were all SO nice! Hopefully your house will sell soon and it would be VERY hard to go from a house to an apt but you're a STRONG woman...you can do it! :)

Yay! I was hoping you posted! I've wanted to call but didn't know where you were, if you had moved, was scared to interrupt... you know?!

Oh my. What to say about this post.

Sorry about the apartment: smell, size, payments, the fact that you're IN an apartment...

Hang in there it gets better? Surely? Evan is happy? Economy is on the uphill? Obama?!?

Sigh...

Can I call you soon? Phone number still the same?!

Good news is that flights to Chicago are really cheap! And you can come stay with me anytime!!!

I can't believe you moved to Chicago!! Ok, I know you are hating it right now..but I love Chicago. Hopefully it will grow on you a little. Where are you living? What ward are you in? (I served my mission there...that's why I'm asking). I need to make a trip out there cause it's been a while...so hopefully that means I'll see ya! :)

I hope you warm up to Chicago soon. It is a great city! You can always drive a few hours south and stay with my dad, he will cook and bake for you anytime:) Hang in there. I am sure you will get settled and love it soon!

Okay I had no idea you were going to Chicago!! That is far away from me...but you are so great. Seriously you will love it here. You are so great at meeting people and all of that. I just can't believe it. I've never been but Aaron really likes it there and I know Ashley will LOVE having you so close.

Can't wait to hear about all your adventures!

Heather O said...

Chicago?? Wow, that is a big change. I have always wanted to see that city so we just may have to come visit. Good luck with the adjustment!

Melanie said...

Oh my goodness, I have no idea you were moving. It sounds like it's been a tough situation, but you'll get adjusted and things will get better. A new adventure.

Chicago has been at the top of my list of US cities to visit for the past couple of years, so now I just HAVE to make the trip in the near future. As soon as I get a job and know that I have money coming in, and then as soon as I can get time off, I'm definitely coming to visit!
